Penfil leads Ashdod past Kiryat Gat, 8-6

KIRYAT GAT, ISRAEL — Zach Penfil was a dominant force as Ashdod LC held on for an 8-6 opening night win over Kiryat Gat LC at Kiryat Gat Synthetic on Tuesday.

Penfil had a hand in all eight goals for Ashdod (1-0), recording six goals and two assists to notch EL AL Player of the Game honors.

Ashdod led throughout the night, however, Kiryat Gat goaltender Dan Kaufman had an exceptional outing to keep them in the game.

Kiryat Gat (0-1) had sparks from Ian Mills (three goals, one assist), Silvio Bonetti (two goals, one assist), and Glen Tobin (one goal). Kaufman (60:00, 12 saves, 8 GA) was dealt the loss.

Max Gradinger added two goals for Ashdod, while Andrew Copeland (60:00, 7 saves, 6 GA) earned the win between the pipes.

Ashdod is back in action on Wednesday at 8:00 PM, when they host Barak Betanya LC at 8:00 PM. Kiryat Gat meets Haifa LC at 6:30 PM. Both games will be held at Ashdod Sport Club as part of the Ashdod Lacrosse Festival.
