Leventhal, Handman tabbed as Players of Week

Be’er Sheva LC swept IPLL weekly player honors after defeating Haifa LC, 11-10, in overtime in what was an exciting championship game at Wolfson Fields in Tel Aviv.

Danny Leventhal was named STX Offensive Player of the Week and Jeff Handman was named Bank Hapoalim Defensive Player of the Week following breakout performances to help their team win the IPLL title.

Leventhal had an immediate impact for the “Speed of the Negev”, scoring six goals, including the game-winner at 30 seconds of overtime to earn EL AL Player of the Game honors.

“It was great to have Danny in our line up,” said an elated head coach Jordan Hirsch. “He is the type of player that is built for the big stage as he leads with his composure. He made big plays when we needed him and led not only on the field but in the huddle.”

Handman has been an integral part of the Be’er Sheva defense all season and his performance this week was no exception. With 3 saves and 4 goals against in the semifinal game, Handman kept Be’er Sheva in contention to move on to the championship where his 10 saves and only 2 goals against helped to secure the win.

“All summer Jeff has shown versatility and flexibility in playing both in the goal and at LSM,” praised Hirsch. “At times, he has stood on his head to make saves and put our defense on his back; he did just that in the cage on Wednesday night.”
