Israel wraps training camp with 9-8 win

TENAFLY, NEW JERSEY — The Israel U-19 Men’s National Team tasted victory for the first time, concluding their training camp for the 2016 FIL World Championships with a 9-8 win over the Fair Lawn Cutters at Tenafly Municipal Field on Monday.

Jake Plantowsky scored the game-winner on a last second buzzer-beater to give the Israelis the win. Nick Schulkin and Joshua Bernstein led the blue-and-white with two goals apiece, while Ron Bentura, Liron Glam, Ilan Hascal and Noah Knopf added singles. Jonah Hirshorn and David Metzger split time in goal; Metzger was credited the win.

The Israelis arrived in New Jersey for training camp on Friday and have been aggressively preparing for the U19 World Games since. The team is currently traveling to Vancouver.

On Sunday, Schulkin scored twice and Knopf once in a 10-3 loss to Building Blocks LC at Newark Academy in Livingston. Metzger and Hirshorn split time in goal; Metzger was dealt the loss.
