Israel Women shine in Baltimore

STEVENSON, MARYLAND — With eight games on the weekend, the Baltimore Showcase event was a big success, but the Israel women’s national team was the big winners with a 16-4 win over Stevenson on Sunday at Mustang Stadium.

Women: Israel 16, Stevenson 4

The blue-and-white scored early and often, jumping out to a 7-0 lead after the first 10 minutes and a 13-0 advantage at halftime. Israel led 15-0 before the Mustangs finally got on the board at 41:44.

Jess Rothstein (3 goals, 2 assists), Ali Curwin (2 goals, 3 assists), Abby Baigelman (2 goals, 2 assists), Amanda Tuck (2 goals, 2 assists) and Jayme Verman (3 goals) all had monster days for Israel, while Olivia Rubin (2 goals) and Sarah Meisenberg (1 goal, 1 assist) also contributed offensively.

Amanda Schwab (1 goal), Emily Brodsky (1 assist), Kim Dubansky (1 assist) and Peri Rutkovitz (1 assist) cracked the scoresheet as well.

JoJo Auerbach (20:00, 3 saves, 1 GA), Blaire Nathanson (20:00, 1 save, 0 GA), Chelsea Weinstein (20:00, 1 save, 3 GA) each saw time in goal; Nathanson was credited the win.

Men: Stevenson 15, Israel 7

The Israel men’s national team couldn’t replicate the success of the women’s program earlier in the day, as the Mustangs jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back.

Stevenson nearly held Israel scoreless for the entire first quarter, before Kyle Bergman trimmed the lead to 4-1 heading into the second quarter. Stevenson held an 8-3 lead at halftime and a 12-5 advantage after three quarters.

Kyle Bergman (1 goal, 2 assists), Rich Cheifitz (1 goal, 2 assists) and Jory Parson (2 goals) led Israel offensively, while Bradley Diamond, Seth Mahler and Joshua Offit each added singles.

Eric Schneider (30:00, 6 saves, 8 GA), Mike Horowitz (15:00, 2 saves, 3 GA) and Ted Bergman (15:00, 2 saves, 4 GA) each saw action in goal; Schneider was dealt the loss.

Men: Towson 14, Israel 7

Towson went on a five-goal run in the first quarter to burst past Israel on Saturday night at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Israel led 2-1 early on, but the Tigers were able to find their scoring punch to take a 6-2 advantage over the blue-and-white. Israel tried clawing back but was never able to cut the deficit closer than three goals.

Justin Diamond (3 goals, 1 assist) and Ryan Hunter (2 goals) led Israel, while Matt Flapan and Joe Nardella added one goal apiece. Nardella, playing in his debut for Israel, was a bright spot, adding a 14-for-16 statline from the faceoff circle.

Eric Schneider (40:00, 8 saves, 4 GA) and Ted Bergman (40:00, 8 saves, 10 GA) split time in goal. Bergman was dealt the loss.
