Israel U-19 schedule in full throttle

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND — The Israel’s U-19 women’s national teams have made their world debut in Scotland this week, and while they’ve had mixed success on the field, their energy and enthusiasm has made them exceptional ambassadors for the country.

The championship squad wrapped up pool play today with a loss to 7th-ranked Japan. While the team has an 0-5 record, they’ve been the life of the tournament — cheering for, dancing with, and supporting any team they cross paths with — all the while they’ve been gaining valuable experience, and tomorrow’s consolation match against fellow newcomer Colombia should be a good test for the young Israelis.

Lucy Hass leads Israel with two goals, both against South Korea, while Jenna Baverman recorded an assist against South Korea and the lone goal today against Japan. Gal Peretz (306:00, 35 saves, 69 GA) made eight saves against Finland, four against Korea, 14 against New Zealand, three against USA, and six against Japan.

Meanwhile, Israel’s festival entry finally debuted today, earning wins against Lady Eleanor Holles (England) and Central NY Elite (USA), and falling to Team HLA (USA) in pool play.

HLA — which stands for Heather Leigh Albert, a foundation established in 1993 to promote, improve and extend the women’s youth lacrosse experience across the United States — defeated Israel in their opening match, 9-2. Israel led 1-0 early, but never got the engines charged in the early-morning battle. Gina Selemi scored twice for the blue-and-white while Rebecca Wilen (30:00, seven saves, nine goals against) was dealt the loss in goal.

Israel recorded their first win in Scotland with an 8-5 victory over English-club Lady Eleanor Holles. Salemi, Drew Reno and Julie Wise scored two goals each, while Dana Isaacs and Molly Covarrubias added singles. Wilen (30:00, five saves, five goals against) won in goal.

The blue-and-white wrapped up their day with a 5-2 win over American squad Central New York Elite. Goals were scored by Covarrubias, Wise, Isaacs, Rachel Yaffe and Natalie Lowenstein; Covarrubias added an assist. Wilen (30:00, two goals against) was credited the win.
