Israel routs Taiwan, 17-3

VANCOUVER, CANADA — The Israel U-19 Men’s National Team earned a decisive 17-3 win over Taiwan at the 2016 U-19 World Lacrosse Championships at Percy Perry Stadium on Sunday.

The win sets the stage for a Monday battle between Israel (2-0) and 7th-ranked Germany (2-0). The winner is expected to win the group and advance to the World Championship quarterfinals.

The blue-and-white used a balanced offensive effort to top Taiwan. Six players scored multiple goals, including Joshua Bernstein (three goals), Nick Schulkin (two goals, five assists, Liron Glam (two goals, one assist), Sagi Hashai (two goals), Alon Berkowitz (two goals) and Ori Bar David (two goals).

Mor Cohen (one goal, one assist), Ron Bentura, Ilan Hascal and Zachary Ornstein added singles for Israel.

David Metzger (38:00, 4 saves, 1 GA) and Jonah Hirshorn (42:00, 2 saves, 1 GA) split time in goal; Metzger was credited the win. Save totals were unavailable at the time of publishing.

Min-Hao Cheng, Yu-Hung Hu and Che-En Li scored for Taiwan.

Germany earned a 13-0 shutout victory over Mexico on Saturday and a 19-2 win over Taiwan on Friday.
