Israel rolls Mexico to wrap group play

VANCOUVER, CANADA — The Israel U-19 Men’s National Team rolled past Mexico, 13-2, to finished group play undefeated at the 2016 U-19 World Lacrosse Championships at Percy Perry Stadium on Tuesday.

The game was a knockout-round tuneup for the blue-and-white, who had already clinched first place in the division following their 12-7 win over 7th-ranked Germany on Monday. Israel will meet either Australia or the Iroquois Nationals in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Israel commanded the game from start to finish, leading 4-0 in the first nine minutes and taking an 11-1 advantage in the third quarter.

Joshua Bernstein (four goals), Nick Schulkin (two goals) and Yotam Drori (two goals) led Israel offensively, while Sagi Hashai, Adam Hilelly, Liron Glam, Yanai Bittmann and Ilan Hascal added singles.

David Metzger (40:00, 5 saves, 1 GA) and Jonah Hirshorn (40:00, 4 saves, 1 GA) split time in goal; Metzger was credited the win.

Israel (4-0) will compete in the World Championship Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 3:30pm local / 6:30pm ET / 1:30am (THU) Israel time. Their opponent will be determined by the end of the day on Tuesday.
