Israel opens Euro Box Championships with win over Turkey

TURKU, FINLAND — The Israel Men’s Indoor team opened their schedule at the European Box Lacrosse Championships with a 24-0 win over Turkey at Marli Areena on Saturday night.

The Israelis burst out to a 12-0 lead after one quarter and cruised to a win in their first-ever meeting against Turkey inside the box. The two neighbor countries have had a long-standing relationship with their field programs playing regular friendlies in the field game.

Jean-Luc Chetner led Israel with six goals and five assists, while Eric Fischer (four goals, two assists), Kevin Harper (four goals, one assist), Kyle Bergman (three goals, two assists) and Zachary Pall (two goals, three assists) also had big nights.

Zachary Ornstein (four assists), Adam Wolf (one goal, two assists), Ori Bar David (one goal, one assist), Daniel Leventhal (one goal), Doug Utting (one goal), Seth Mahler (one goal) and Jacob Silberlicht (one assist) also cracked the scoresheet.

Zachary Higgins (30:00, 1 save, 0 GA) and Andrew Copeland (30:00, 7 saves, 0 GA) split time in goal; Higgins was credited the win.

Israel (1-0) meets Serbia (0-1) on Sunday at 2:00 PM at Gatorade Center.
