VANCOUVER, CANADA — Israel led 4-2 at the half, but England had a strong second half to prevail 10-7 in the fifth-place match at the 2016 U-19 World Lacrosse Championships at Percy Perry Stadium.
The result secures a #6 world ranking for the Israelis in their first-ever appearance in the U-19 Men’s World Championships, a rousing success for the young program.
The shorthanded Israelis jumped out to a 4-2 halftime lead, thanks in large part to great goaltending from David Metzger (80:00, 12 saves, 10 GA) who had several saves worthy of the highlight reel in the second half, and long-stick midfielder Noah Knopf who scored two first-half goals.
However, England stormed back with a 5-1 run in the third quarter.
Sagi Hashai and Knopf had two goals apiece, while Nick Schulkin chipped in three assists. Alon Berkowitz, Ilan Hascal and Alon Bechor cracked the scoresheet with singles.
Zachary Ornstein won 14-of-17 faceoffs for the blue-and-white.
Austin Hudson scored five goals to lead England.
