England bursts past Israel in tight series opener, 7-6

KIRYAT GAT, ISRAEL — The England men’s national lacrosse team prevailed as the first of a five-game series took place in the mid-day heat at Kiryat Gat Synthetic on Wednesday.

Israel led 5-3 in the second half, but England scored three straight goals to take a 6-5 advantage. The teams traded goals as Ryan Hunns scored the game-winner with just 12 seconds remaining.

Hunns led England with three goals, while Alex Russell scored twice. Joe Baythorpe and Will Hardy added one goal apiece, and Zac Guy recorded one assist. Willy Baxter (80:00, 10 saves, 6 GA) earned the win in goal.

Ryan Hunter led Israel with two goals and one assist, while Sean Wright chipped in one goal and one assist. Eric Cantor, Max Kaufman and Jacob Silberlicht added singles, and Kyle Bergman recorded one assist.

Andrew Landsman (40:00, 5 saves, 2 GA) and Eric Fischer (40:00, 5 saves, 5 GA) split time in goal; Fischer was dealt the loss.

Game two is Thursday night at Kraft Family Sports Campus in Jerusalem. Faceoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
