NETANYA, ISRAEL — Andrew Copeland stepped in for Barak Netanya LC and helped the “Bolts” deliver Haifa LC their first loss of the season on Monday night at Shapira Field.
Copeland made 13 saves, including a last-second gut-wrencher to his shin, to earn EL AL Player of the Game and clinch the victory.
The match was a meticulous, defensive battle, with Netanya (3-2) leading the most of the way, however, Haifa (4-1) mounted a late comeback and overtime seemed imminent. Aaron Feinberg scored the game-winner with only two minutes left, while Jesse Parker added two goals and one assist to lead Netanya.
Haifa’s Justin Diamond, who leads the league in scoring, added three goals, but his team’s late offensive push was not enough to retain their undefeated record.
Netanya meets Ashkelon LC (2-3) on Wednesday as part of the Tel Aviv Lacrosse Festival in their regular-season finale. Haifa meets Tel Aviv (1-4) in the main event at Wolfson Fields.
