KIRYAT GAT, ISRAEL — The Israel Winter Service Trip teams brought grit and intensity, but were unable to overcome their older counterparts on Thursday evening at Kiryat Gat Synthetic.
Jacob Silberlicht scored three goals and two assists to lead the Men — who were competing under the Tel Aviv LC banner — to a 10-9 victory for the second straight year in the now annual exhibition.
Jordan Canter and Eric Fischer each notched two goals and one assist, while MLL pro Max Seibald — who repped the hometown Kiryat Gat team with a red-and-green helmet and gloves — ripped a goal and two assists in his first action in the Middle East.
Jon Lipton and Bill Beroza each added singles.
Jim Gottlieb (36:00, 4 saves, 4 GA) and Beroza (36:00, 4 saves, 5 GA) split time in goal with Beroza earning the win.
Kraham Kalman lead Team WST with five goals, while Matthew Weissman chipped in a pair of scores. Nick Lipsher had a goal and an assist, with Jacob Braunstein (one goal), Sammy Breslau (one assist) and Mikael Choukroun (one assist) also cracking the scoresheet.
On the women’s side, the Israel Senior National Team flexed their muscles ahead of the 2017 FIL World Cup. Mixed with a handful of U-19 players, the blue-and-white women jumped out to 14-0 lead after 30 minutes of play.
Rachel Ozer (four goals, two assists, Jayme Verman (three goals, two assists) and Halsey Diakow (three goals, one assist) led the way for the Israelis while Taylor Roy (one goal, one assist) and Batel Elkalay (two goals, one assist) also chipped in. Kate Goldstein (30:00, 2 saves, 0 GA) earned the win in goal.
Team WST men and women will be competing in exhibition play against teams from Poland, Serbia and Slovenia on Sunday in Belgrade.
The Tel Aviv LC men are back in action in April at the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial in Prague.
The Israel Women’s National Team training schedule will be announced shortly — the blue-and-white are preparing for the quadrennial 2017 FIL Women’s World Cup in England.
