Israel stuns Germany, 12-7

VANCOUVER, CANADA — The Israel U-19 Men’s National Team clinched a berth in the World Championship Quarterfinals with a stunning win over 7th-ranked Germany, 12-7, at the 2016 U-19 World Lacrosse Championships at Percy Perry Stadium on Monday.

The Israelis will meet either Australia or the Iroquois Nationals in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.

The Germans held a 2-1 lead in the first quarter, but the blue-and-white commanded the next 40 minutes of action, going on a 7-1 run to take an 8-3 advantage.

Nick Schulkin’s goal at 11:17 of the third quarter stood tall as the game-winner; Schulkin finished with five goals to lead Israel, while Alon Berkowitz chipped in a hat-trick.

Yotam Drori, Ilan Hascal, Noah Knopf and Zachary Ornstein added singles for the Israelis.

David Metzger (78:35, 11 saves, 6 GA) earned the win in goal for the blue-and-white.

Soeren Spiegel led Germany with two goals, while five others added singles.

Israel meets Mexico (0-4) to wrap up pool play on Tuesday at 10am local / 1pm ET / 8pm Israel time.
