Israel cruises to second win at European Box Championships

TURKU, FINLAND — The Israel Men’s National Indoor team earned a second decisive victory in a 17-hour span, topping Serbia, 19-1, at the European Box Lacrosse Championships at Gatorade Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Israelis led 5-0 after one quarter and 9-0 at the half; Aleksandar Jovanović’s goal with 49 seconds left in the match was Serbia’s lone score.

Jean-Luc Chetner led the blue-and-white with a goal and five assists; Doug Utting (two goals, three assists), Jacob Silberlicht (two goals, two assists), Adam Wolf (two goals, two assists), Zachary Pall (three goals), Eric Fischer (two goals, one assist) and Zachary Ornstein (two goals) also chipped in.

Ori Bar David and Kyle Bergman each added one goal and one assist, while Seth Mahler, Andrew Kruter and Kevin Harper added singles. Dalton Lundy had one assist.

Zachary Higgins (30:00, 6 saves, 0 GA) and Andrew Copeland (30:00, 2 saves, 1 GA) split time in goal; Higgins was credited the win.

Israel (2-0) has earned a bye to the quarterfinals and will meet Ireland (2-0) to wrap up group play on Monday at 5:00 PM at Gatorade Center.
