Israel Lacrosse has determined the roster of 25 who will represent the country in the men’s portion of the 2024 World Box Lacrosse Championships later this month in Central New York.

From September 20 to 29, 28 men’s national teams will vie for international supremacy across three of the region’s premier venues: the Utica University Nexus Center and Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, both in Utica, and the Mary C. Winder Community Center, located in the Oneida Indian Nation. A 10-team women’s championship will also take place, the first of its kind, which Israel is not competing in.

Israel will participate in Pool B with Belgium, Hong Kong, and Mexico. It will open play on September 21 at 7:45 p.m. local time against Mexico. Then, Belgium a day later at 3:15 p.m. Lastly, Hong Kong on September 23 at 8:15 p.m., also event’s final pool play contest.

Eleven of the 28 teams in the men’s tournament are making their debuts. The 2024 WBLC will set a record for its size, surpassing the 20 nations in Langley, British Columbia in 2019. The 28-team field more than doubles the 13 countries that met at the Onondaga Reservation in 2015.

As the sport grows, the competition increases. Head coach Chad Culp is counting down the days.

“I’m incredibly excited for the upcoming World Championships,” Culp explained. “We have put a roster together that will be fast and hard working. We have a good mix of veterans who have played in past World Championships and some newcomers that are playing for their first time. I look forward to seeing our group compete on the world stage. Yalla Israel!”

Coaching Staff

Israel Lacrosse named Culp head coach of the team in 2022. This will be his first WBLC as the main man behind the bench.

The nod to Culp to replace long-time head coach Brad MacArthur, who transitioned to the team’s general manager role, rewarded his years of dedication to the program. The 15-year NLL vet was critical to Israel’s fourth-place finish at the 2015 World Indoor Championship and retired from retirement to play a huge part in Tel Aviv LC’s triumph at the 2018 Aleš Hrebeský Memorial. His presence around the program remained even after his playing days concluded.

“Chad’s intimate knowledge of the game, his culture, as well as his family’s love of Israel make him uniquely qualified to step into this role seamlessly,” MacArthur said in 2022.

Culp will have a wealth of experience at his disposal among his staff. Assistant coaches Jason Crosbie and David Dennenberg, two architects behind Israel’s 2015 run to the No. 4 spot in the world ranking and gold medal success at the 2017 European Championship, will serve as Culp’s backup. Physiotherapist Denyse Beaumont will also travel with the team, as will head scout Stu Sterparn, manager Zach Eagen, and MacArthur.
