NETANYA, ISRAEL — The lacrosse competition at the Maccabiah Games got a jolt of excitement on Thursday morning, with Great Britain sneaking past Israel, 17-15, in a memorable affair at Shapira Field.
The game featured 11 lead changes, including two in the final minute of regulation; Jenna Jacob’s goal for GB with 29 seconds remaining tied the match at 15 and forced overtime.
Georgia Koopman scored six goals for Great Britain, while Daisey Gershon added four goals and one assist.
Batel Elkalay led Israel with five goals and two assists, with Sabina Skolnick (five goals) and Nikol Baglay (three goals) also having big days for the blue-and-white.
Great Britain (1-0) meets Maccabi USA (1-0) on Sunday morning, with the winner earning a bye to the Gold Medal game on Tuesday.
Israel (0-2) will meet Sunday’s loser in the semifinals on Monday.
