Tel Aviv LC’s Matthew Flapan was named STX Offensive Player of the Week, while Haifa LC’s Ted Bergman was named Bank Hapoalim Defensive Player of the Week.
Flapan, who is leading Tel Aviv (1-3) in scoring, put up four goals and one assist in Tuesday night’s game in Ashkelon, and followed it up with a one goal, two assist performance in Tel Aviv’s first win of the season against Barak Netanya LC on Thursday. The 24-year-old midfielder did not play collegiate lacrosse, and recently finished his service in the Israel Defense Forces.
Bergman has been outstanding in goal, and now, both sides of the field, after becoming the first goaltender to score a goal in Israel Premier League history. He added an assist in Haifa’s 6-4 win over Ashkelon on Thursday night. Bergman recorded a combined 28 saves in his two games this past week, allowing just 11 goals in the two wins.
The IPLL is back in action with a Sunday night game between Ashkelon and Tel Aviv to kick off the final week of the regular season.
