Ashkelon stuns Be’er Sheva in OT, 8-7

ASHDOD, ISRAEL — Ashkelon LC is earning the moniker of the “comeback kids”, after rallying from a 6-2 second-half deficit to stun Be’er Sheva LC in overtime, 8-7, at Ashdod Sport Club on Wednesday.

Caleb Brodie shifted the momentum towards Ashkelon (2-0) as he helped spark the team’s with a five-goal run.

Be’er Sheva’s Dan Deutsch tied the game at 7-7 with 4:46 remaining to force overtime, but Max Wendell answered back with the game-winner at 2:39 of the extra period.

Brodie finished with three goals, while Max Wendell (two goals), Drew Saltzman (one goal, two assists), Ken Kasule (one goal, one assist), Drew Reno (one goal) and Will Gansler (one assist) also chipped in on offense.

Gabriel Gross (62:39, 14 saves, 7 GA) earned the win in goal for Ashkelon, as well as EL AL Player of the Game honors.

Deutsch led Be’er Sheva (1-1) with three goals, while Micah Stalarow (two goals, two assists), Brett Hackel (one goal, two assists), Ian Kadish (one goal), Marc Skolnick (one assist) and Tim Fine (one assist) contributed offensively.

Jeff Handman (62:39, 14 saves, 8 GA) was dealt the loss between the pipes.

Ashkelon looks to stay undefeated when they host Kiryat Gat (0-2) on Monday at 8:00 PM at New Municipal Stadium. Be’er Sheva travels to Netanya on Sunday in 7:00 PM contest at Tubruq Field.
