KIRYAT GAT, ISRAEL — Kiryat Gat LC has named midfielders Glen Tobin and Ömer Faruk Yetiştirici, as well as goaltender Dan Kaufman as franchise players for the 2016 Israel Premier Lacrosse League season.
Tobin, a 28-year-old midfielder hailing from Cherry Hill, New Jersey, has resided in Kiryat Gat since September, where he has served as a youth lacrosse coordinator and coach for the cities’ emerging lacrosse program. Tobin played club lacrosse at Towson University and is a member of the Israel men’s national team. He has appeared in six exhibition games for the blue-and-white this year (in box and field). Prior to joining Israel Lacrosse, Tobin stayed active in the sport while serving as a coach for the South Jersey Region boys lacrosse team at the JCC Maccabi Games.
Yetiştirici joins Kiryat Gat on loan from the Istanbul Sultans, whom he appeared in seven games for at the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial in April. The 20-year-old midfielder has world-stage experience for the Turkish National Team, appearing in seven games at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in September.
Kaufman brings veteran experience to KG as the first goaltender to be claimed from the player pool. The 29-year-old played collegiately at Lehigh University, and has been an active member of the Lehigh Valley Steam since graduation.
Kiryat Gat LC has also announced Ivan Cohen as the Premier Club’s first-ever head coach. Cohen has a tremendous history in the game, earning a D2 National Championship as a player for Adelphi in 1979. He previously served as a youth coach and board member for Westfield Lacrosse Club, and has also currently serves as an assistant coach at Westfield High School. Cohen has recent international coaching experience as an Assistant Coach for the Germany men’s national team in 2012 and 2014.
KG will make their debut in the Premier League on June 28th against Ashdod LC.
